Penang Bak Moi (Pork Broth)

Pork Porridge or “Bak Moi” in Hokkien comes with meat balls, pork liver and intestines. The thing about the porridge here is that the porridge is a little soupy. So don’t expect it to be like congee where the rice is dissolved into the water creating a mushy and smooth texture.
This stall here at Kampung Malabar opens at night roughly from 6pm in the evening.

Penang Botanical Gardens

The Penang Botanical Gardens (Taman Kebun Bunga in Malay) is also fondly known to the locals as the “Waterfall Gardens” because of the 400 ft waterfall located within the gardens which supplies the gardens with the cleanest water on the Island.

Under Charles Curtis (1853 – 1928) the first superintendent of the Gardens, this former quarry site was converted into the Botanical Gardens in 1884. The entire 29 hectare garden can be described as “an amphitheatre of hills and lush rainforests”. The garden is a popular recreation haunt for locals to have their regular jogs, exercise, group dancing and morning tai-chi.  The “Quarry”, an open air theatre (new addition to the garden) is where most of the international festivals like the World Music Festival and also the George Town Heritage Festival are held.

Its lush greenery and tranquil setting makes it a favourite park and a popular tourist destination. Regarded as Penang’s unique natural heritage, this is the only garden of its kind in Malaysia.

Temurun Waterfalls Langkawi

Backpacking Langkawi soon?
So what attractions are worth seeing on this beautiful but big ass island, you ask??
We don’t want you to be riding your moped the whole day and end up sunburned as red as a lobster chasing all those so called “Attractions” they label on the free Langkawi Tourist Map.
(Langkawi can be very hot or very wet – depending on which season you going)
Some of those attractions are just a waste of time.

We are visiting the Temurun Waterfalls today.
The Air Terjun Temurun or the Temurun Waterfalls rivals the amazing Seven Falls (Telaga Tujuh). Unlike its monstrous cousin, Temurun Falls is further away from the main hotels and beaches and therefore quieter. So on low seasons, you practically have the entire waterfall to your selves.

Ryokan Chic Hotels

Ryokan on Muntri Street, Penang just recently opened its doors to their first batch of guests about 1 month ago. (30th April 2011).
There was a promotion that for the one day only (which is the opening day) they invited 20 lucky facebook fans to have a free stay at the hotel.
Subsequently the remaining fans had a 50% discount of the rooms for the same day.
We unfortunately missed that special day. (To be honest, we missed the FREE STAY more!! :D ). But after hearing so much hype about this place, we decided to review it. Of course again, there might be plenty of reviews already of this place online since its such a nice setup. But at backpackies, we try not to bullshit our fans, and of course, we try to take pictures that actually give you the whole feel of what to expect during your stay at Ryokan @ Muntri Street Penang.
So taking out our microscope and V800 “dont take any sh*t” xI3 Faultfinder- We begin to review Ryokan.
